Sara and Hayden were working on homework together in their dorm when Sara’s phone started ringing. It was a facetime call from her best friend Jaime.

Sara answered right away. “Hey girl.”

“I’m seconds away from eating a cupcake. Talk me out of it.”

“Why would I do that? Cupcakes are amazing.”

“Because I’m a model and my income literally depends on me being stick thin.”

Sara didn’t know how Jaime managed to put herself through all this. If someone told her she had to be a size zero, she’d laugh in their face as she walked away eating a donut.

“Jaime, you know you have a really good metabolism. I’m pretty sure one cupcake won’t kill you.”

“You are such a bad influence. Screw it. I’m eating the cupcake.”

“Here, here. Good for you.”

“How’s it going?”

“Good. We’re just working on some homework. Say hi Hayden.”

Sara turned her phone around so Jaime could see Hayden.

“Hey Jaime.”

“Hey girl. Is Sara annoying yet?”

Hayden laughed. “Not yet. But I’ll let you know when my eye starts twitching at the sound of her snoring.”

“I don’t snore,” Sara said, turning the screen back around to herself. “I don’t snore.”

“You totally do girl,” Jaime said.

“I hate both of you.”

“You know that’s not true. Alright, I’ll let you get back to work. Later.”

“Bye.”

Sara hung up the phone and glared at Hayden. “Do I really snore?”

“Only when you sleep on your back. And it’s not truck driver snoring. It’s a cute snore.”

“Hayden, no snoring is cute. Maybe I should get that checked.”

“No,” Hayden said, coming to sit next to Sara. “I like your little snore.”

Sara rolled her eyes, putting an arm around Hayden. She snuggled into her side. She got a text message from Jaime. She smiled. “Jaime says she loves you and to not screw this one up.”

“Awesome. I’ve got the approval of the best friend. Now I just have to win over your dad.”

“He’s going to love you, like I do.”

The second the words came out of her mouth, the smile on Sara’s face dropped into a frown.

Crap.

She felt Hayden tense at her words.

She was mortified. She had no idea what to say or do next. She knew she loved Hayden, but she didn’t want to tell her too soon and risk her thinking she was one of those U-haul lesbians. They were already living together technically.

“I just meant…” Sara started to say, but stopped. “What I meant to say was…”

Hayden looked up at Sara. “It’s okay. I know you didn’t mean I love you. It was just worded the wrong way.”

Sara was about to agree, but then changed her mind.

Screw it.

“No, I do mean it.”

Hayden looked up at Sara in bewilderment before sitting up to look at her at eye level. “You mean it?”

“Yes. I love you Hayden. I know it’s soon, but I don’t care. It’s how I feel. I love you.”

Hayden grinned. “I love you too.”

“You do?”

“How could I not?”

Sara kissed Hayden passionately.

Hayden wrapped her arms around Sara’s neck as Sara lowered her onto her back.

Sara kissed down Hayden’s cheek on her way to the woman’s soft spot on her neck.
